School health officials will re-evaluate future team activity in 48 hours
The Kentucky men’s basketball program has been put on a 48-hour pause, including the cancellation of Saturday’s game vs. Texas, due to a combination of positive testing, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the program. The decision is consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 and UK Athletics COVID-19 management requirements.
New Event Protocols Will Be Strictly Enforced
After eight months of event cancellations and postponements due to COVID-19, Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center will reopen in November to host a limited number of live events in 2020-2021.
In a special topping out ceremony held today on the site of Central Bank Center, construction crews placed the final structural steel beam atop the new exhibit hall space at the $300 million convention center project. Per construction tradition, the 15-foot beam is adorned with stakeholders’ signatures, an American flag and a live evergreen tree—signifying good luck and prosperity—in celebration of the completion of the structure’s skeleton.
2020 Marks the End of an Era for Central Bank Center and Rupp Arena - Three Longtime Managers Retire - Three Promotions Announced
When Rupp Arena and Central Bank Center restarts its engine after the COVID-19 shutdown, there will be a marked change in some personnel. After serving multiple decades in their respective positions, three longtime managers of the complex have recently retired and three veteran staff members have been promoted.
An online auction of surplus equipment, furniture and miscellaneous items used by Central Bank Center (formerly Lexington Center) and Rupp Arena will be held May 24th - June 2nd, 2020.
